Whittington Remembers is a digital archive connected to the Garden of Remembrance in Whittington, Shropshire. It brings together local history, research, images, and stories linked to the former burial ground and the village around it.
A Living Archive
This website is intended as a living archive.
Some records are fragmentary. Some gravestones are missing or displaced. Not all stories can be fully recovered. Where information is uncertain or incomplete, that uncertainty is acknowledged.
The aim is not to create a definitive or exhaustive account, but to offer a respectful framework for remembrance, context, and ongoing learning.
The Whittington Remembers Project
The project grew from a volunteer gardening initiative in the Garden of Remembrance, a community-led effort to care for and tend a community green space opposite the church that was once a burial ground .
As work began in the garden, questions naturally emerged: who was buried there, what had been recorded or moved over time, and how the history of the place might be better understood and respected.
Witeh initial funding from Crowdfund Shropshire, Whittington Remembers developed alongside this practical work, offering a way to explore and share the deeper story of the site.

Whittington Remembers has been made possible through community support, including crowdfunding via Spacehive, and through the cooperation of the church, local organisations, and individuals who have shared their time, knowledge, and care.
The archive will continue to grow gently, guided by respect for the place, the people connected to it, and the community it serves.
